From July 23, 2009, to July 25, 2009, several forest fires occurred in Sardinia, Italy, causing at least 2 deaths. Many residents had to leave their homes. The maps show the burnt areas and the spread of the fires. The burnt areas were derived by a classification of ALOS AVNIR-2 and SPOT4 data with a resolution of 10 m and 20 m respectively, acquired on July 28, 2009. The MODIS fire hotspots show the location of active fires from July 23, 2009, to July 25, 2009. The fire hotspots were detected automatically.
