Civil unrest in Libya
undefinedThe Libyan civil unrest began on 15 February 2011 as a series of protests and confrontations against the Government and its leader Muammad al-Gaddafi and has since become a widespread uprising which is continuing to present. Protests have centred on Libya's two largest cities, the capital of Tripoli in the west, and Benghazi in the east and tends to spread to other cities. ZKI provides rapid geographic reference maps of Libya and neighbouring countries in the framework of GMES Emergency Response project SAFER with funding from the European Community's Seventh Framework Programme.
