ZKI supports NATO Emergency Exercise 'Bulgaria 2025'
From September 7 to 12, one of the largest international exercises on civil protection and emergency management takes place in Montana, Bulgaria. The exercise, with over 1,200 participants from more than 40 countries, is coordinated by the EADRCC, NATO's most important instrument for rapid and effective response to civil crises. The DLR is supporting the exercise in the areas of damage assessment, accessibility of medical facilities, and different types of visualization (static, web-based, and 3D).
The aim is to quickly map buildings and infrastructure, an area in which the ZKI has many years of expertise. Based on this information, DLR employees can, for example, assess whether and how quickly hospitals or other facilities can still be accessed and how many people are affected. In addition, the scientists combine various data from exercise participants with additional geodata. From this, the researchers create exactly the products that are needed in specific situations and pass them on digitally, virtually in 3D, and as maps. A survey on the use of the data completes the exercise.
